IAD Identification, Prevention and Treatment

About the Presenter:

This session will be delivered by Shani Elwis, Clinical Specialist from Hartmann, with extensive experience in continence care and skin health. Shani will draw on clinical insights and practical application to guide attendees through the challenges of managing Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD), with a focus on person-centred care and best practice principles.

With a strong emphasis on holistic skin care and continence support, Shani will also introduce the MoliCare Skin Care range, including demonstration of key products used in clinical and community care settings.

About this Session:

Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) is a common but often under-recognised condition that affects skin integrity and patient comfort. This education session explores the physiology of skin, especially in the pelvic region, and offers practical, evidence-based strategies for promoting skin health, preventing damage, and managing IAD effectively.

Key topics will include:

  • Skin anatomy and physiology (A&P), the acid protection mantle, and ageing skin
  • Factors contributing to pelvic skin breakdown and IAD development
  • Principles of preventative skin care: Clean, Protect, Care
  • Assessment and identification of IAD using the GLOBIAD classification tool
  • Holistic continence care and how to choose the correct product type, size, and absorbency
  • Clinical use of the MoliCare Skin Care Range (cleansing foam, wash gloves, barrier creams and more)
  • Person-centred strategies for promoting continence and supporting skin integrity
  • Practical care considerations aligned with best practice and nursing guidelines

Attendees will gain hands-on exposure to product demonstrations and have the opportunity to ask case-specific questions, whether you're a healthcare professional, carer, or support worker involved in continence or wound care.
