Compression Therapy Education Session: Clinical Use and Practical Application
About the Presenter:
This session will be presented by Ellen Gulin, JOBST representative with extensive experience in compression therapy and practical insights into supporting vascular and lymphatic health. Drawing from real-world scenarios and widely used garment solutions, she will guide attendees through the fundamentals of compression therapy and its application across a range of clinical and everyday care settings.
The session focuses on ready-to-wear compression garments and includes valuable information for healthcare professionals, carers, and individuals managing conditions such as lymphoedema, chronic oedema, and venous insufficiency.
About this Session:
Compression therapy plays a key role in managing swelling, improving circulation, and enhancing comfort for those living with chronic vascular and lymphatic conditions. This session will explore how compression garments support these outcomes, and how to apply them effectively.
Key topics will include:
- A basic overview of vascular and lymphatic anatomy & physiology
- What happens when these systems are compromised
- How compression therapy works and when it's indicated
- Practical demonstrations of various RTW compression garments
- Donning/doffing techniques, garment care, and replacement indicators
- Importance of continuing compression post-wound healing
- Post-surgical oedema management, especially following varicose vein surgery
Attendees will also have the opportunity to handle and learn about compression garments often used in clinical care, including thigh-high stockings, waist-high and knee-high garments designed for conditions such as lymphoedema and venous disorders.
The session will also include a 30-minute Q&A, with the opportunity to discuss challenges faced by regular-users as well as clinicians, carers, and support workers in everyday practice. You can also submit specific questions or discussion topics via the RSVP form, and we’ll do our best to cover them during the session.
